CAMMINO DEI BORGHI SILENTI
The Cammino dei Borghi Silenti is a 90-kilometer loop in one of Umbria’s most picturesque and authentic corners, far from the region’s crowded tourist routes.
A young Cammino, born in 2020, which has already received flattering reviews from walkers and insiders. A roundabout that is like an embrace around the beautiful Amerini Mountains, passing through practically intact, sparsely inhabited medieval villages where history, nature and flavors come together. Magical places where silence reigns supreme, a journey back in time where the pacing of steps is refreshment for body and soul. We are in southwestern Umbria, in the province of Terni, 20 kilometers from the highway exit and the FS station of Orvieto.

HISTORY
On the border between Latium, Umbria and Tuscany, this Path is immersed in nature and history. The territory crossed bears evidence as far back as the 8th century BC, inhabited by the Umbrians but close to the lands of the Etruscans. A border and meeting place, of trade exchanges and fierce clashes, after the fall of the Western Roman Empire it was crossed by the great barbarian invasions given its strategic proximity to the most important communication routes of the time.
It probably belonged to the Lombard territory of the Duchy of Spoleto and then ended up disputed in the struggles between the Guelph Orvieto and the Ghibelline Todi, cities close to the Cammino whose centuries-old history also influenced this area. Finally belonging to the territory of the State of the Church until 1870, this area lost over the years that strategic and geographical importance it had always maintained from pre-Roman times until the 15th century.
Designed and managed by hiking guide Marco Fioroni for land development.

STAGE 01
Tongs – Melezzole/Toscolano
“Toward the Enchanted Valley.”
The first STAGE leads immediately into the heart of the Cammino: past the village of Guardea, the route enters the woods that act as a corollary to the Amerini Mountains. The discovery of Santa Restituta and Toscolano, two authentic silent villages surrounded by greenery, will be an authentic surprise that will leave the walker speechless.

Melezzole-Morre/Collelungo
“Endless Horizons”
From the summit of Mount Croce di Serra, at an altitude of almost a thousand meters, the view sweeps over a horizon that seems never-ending: from north to south, from east to west, all of central Italy appears within reach. Under favorable conditions, a slice of the Tyrrhenian Sea can be seen, while the entire Umbro – Marchigiano Apennines act as a corollary to the east, down down to distant junctions with the Gran Sasso and the Laga mountains.

STAGE 03
Morre- Civitella del Lago
“Torment and ecstasy”
Passing through one of the iconic places on the Camino, the Pasquarella hermitage, is one that will leave its mark. The exertions undertaken will be repaid by the collected silence of the place: carved into a narrow gorge created by the flowing waters, surrounded by thick and wild nature, the hermitage dates back to the 9th – 10th century. Beautiful landscapes over Lake Corbara, the Forello gorges and the hills surrounding Orvieto.

Finishing a Camino is never nice but the last STAGE still holds many surprises. We reach the Umbrian-Etruscan necropolis, an unmistakable sign that this ancient territory was chosen as a favorite place for flourishing civilizations since the 8th century BC.
