Romea Strata

The Romea Strata represents one of Europe’s most important historical paths, which, crossing Trentino Alto Adige, connects the Baltic Sea to the Eternal City. This monumental route of more than a thousand kilometers in Italian territory has shaped the history of the continent for centuries, initially as a commercial artery for the transport of precious goods such as amber, salt, iron and silk, and then evolving into a priceless route of pilgrimage and cultural exchange.

The uniqueness of this path lies in its role as a cultural crossroads: figures who changed the history of science such as Copernicus, Kepler and Galileo Galilei walked along its paths. The route, which takes about 45 days on foot or 15-20 by bicycle, offers an experience rich in architectural evidence, from sacred art to historic hospitality, allowing walkers to customize their itinerary thanks to the many available branches.

Romea Imperiale

The Romea Imperiale, an integral part of the Germanic Vie Romea Imperiale recognized as European Cultural Routes, begins its route right from the heart of Trentino-Alto Adige. This 550-kilometer route presents itself as a journey through time and the beauty of central and northern Italy.

From the capital of Trentino, the route winds through a mosaic of landscapes that alternate between UNESCO cities and medieval villages preserved over time. The itinerary stands out not only for its artistic heritage of religious architecture, medieval bridges and classical monuments, but also for its exceptional food and wine offerings. In fact, walkers can discover a true itinerary of taste, from fine Trentino wines to alpine cheeses, creating a unique multisensory experience.

Cammino di Carlo Magno

Length: about 225 km
Stages: 12
Departure: Bergamo
Arrival: Carisolo (Trentino Alto Adige)

The Cammino di Carlo Magno, which ends right in Trentino territory, is an itinerary that combines history, legend and nature. The route, which mostly runs halfway up the mountain ranges, offers a hiking experience of medium difficulty with some more challenging sections near the Alpine passes.

The uniqueness of this Cammino lies in its extraordinary variety of altimetry and landscape: from the 380 meters of Bergamo Alta up to the 1883 meters of Tonale, crossing some of the most striking valleys in the Alps, including Val di Sole and Val Rendena in Trentino territory. The route is enhanced by the presence of beautiful alpine lakes and a rich heritage of churches and holy places that, according to legend, were erected at the behest of Charlemagne himself during his work of evangelization of the Camonica Valley.

CAMMINO DI SAN VILI

The CAMMINO DI SAN VILI is an evocative itinerary that winds at the foot of the majestic Brenta Dolomites, following in the footsteps of St. Vigilius, the third bishop of Trent and patron of the city. The route, rich in history and spirituality, retraces the ancient route that the saint crossed during his evangelization work in the 4th century AD.

Along the 108-kilometer route, walkers encounter an extraordinary variety of landscapes where water dialogues with rock, creating scenery of great beauty. The route is dotted with numerous testimonies of devotion to the saint: from the Pieve di Spiazzo, built on a boulder on the banks of the Sarca River where, according to legend, his martyrdom took place, to the small church in Tione, to the numerous chapels that accompany the walk to the cathedral in Trent.

The route follows the ancient Bus de Vela passage, touching historic localities such as Ragoli, Stenico, Banale, Ranzo and the Vezzanese, allowing walkers to immerse themselves not only in nature but also in ancient traditions and tasty local gastronomy.

CAMMINO DI SAN VILI

Cammino di San Rocco

Length: 70 km

Arrival: Mori (TN)

The Cammino di San Rocco is a loop trail that runs in southern Trentino, between Vallagarina and Alto Garda.

This route, which draws a symbolic infinity between the two sides of the Cameras Valley, offers a unique experience of connecting with the land and its inhabitants.

The route winds at low and mid-mountain altitudes, traversing diverse landscapes that tell the story of the region’s rich biodiversity. The first three STAGES take walkers through Val di Gresta, from the beech forest of Bordala Pass to the scenic Mount Creino, passing through the quaint village of Ronzo-Chienis. A significant STAGE is Manzano, where it is possible to explore the evocative trenches of the Nagià-Grom, evidence of the area’s wartime history.

The last two STAGES are developed on the Brentonico plateau, immersing the walker in a natural environment of extraordinary beauty, characterized by ancient chestnut groves and the rich flora of the Monte Baldo Natural Park. The walk is distinguished by being a path made up of encounters and discoveries, where local history and culture are harmoniously interwoven with the surrounding nature.
